Responsibility

At Dagger, we believe what makes us truly a great company to do business with isn’t just our products, but it’s the people that stand behind them. Our Team Dagger members individually do amazing things working for causes greater than their own, helping their communities and protecting the environment. That’s why our mission is to reflect those same values as a company through corporate responsibility programs.

Recycling material waste

For years now we have been recycling the waste plastic from our factory; offcuts were mixed with other plastic to become toys, compost bins and carrier bags. Good for the environment? Not bad, but our aim had always been to recycle any waste ourselves – to produce more kayaks.
Well now we can. The 100% recycled Dagger Fiesta kayak has been causing quite a stir. Throughout our 2010 dealer preview event our UK dealers were invited to put a recycled boat shell through the “2lb Lump Hammer Test”. A month of abuse later and it was still going strong!

Check out the short video below for an explanation of the process:

Carbon offsetting

We have carbon offset our entire natural gas supply by buying Carbon Credits (CER’s) and our financial contribution goes into carbon reduction projects in developing nations. This offsetting ensures that production
of our Dagger and Islander kayaks is carbon neutral - a paddlesport industry first. The heat generated from the oven during production is redistributed back into the factory for heating.

Energy consumption

ecotricity, the world's first green energy supplier, provides all our electricity needs. Our headquarters use low energy lighting throughout the building and we turn off lights when not in use – simple but smart.

Responsible printing

We are aware of our environmental responsibilities when printing promotional material.

Our printers' equipment is powered by ecotricity the 'world's first green electricity company', leader in its field and major investor in 'renewable power generation'.

We always use vegetable oil based inks for our 4 colour printing (these come from renewable sources and contain minimal levels of mineral oils). We minimise our impact upon landfill by sorting and recycling all our waste paper and cardboard. We use recycled paper for our catalogues and use biodegradable gloss and matt lamination.

Reducing and re-using packaging

All card waste is recycled using a local facility. As an ongoing development, packaging material for products is being reduced whenever possible and re-usable and recyclable solutions implemented.

Charities and team initiatives

We are members and supporters of several organisations all of whom we endorse as excellent examples of progressive and sustainable development and resource protection.

We’re launching a number of new initiatives through our Team Dagger members. Find out more about these programs and events by checking back here. You might find something you can get involved with to share your own skills in helping with these causes, or ensuring that the environments we love to paddle in are left better than we found them.
